A double-medal winning para dressage champion is coming to the Pegasus Centre to pass on tips to future champions.
Simon Laurens, a Paralympic dressage rider, member of the Team GB Performance Squad and winner of Gold and Silver medals at the 2008 Paralympic Games held in Beijing will be teaching riders at the Pegasus Centre alongside Cathy Burrell, regular Para dressage instructor at the Centre on Monday 20 February as part of the British Dressage Northern Regions training programme.
“In the Olympic year it’s great to have an Olympic champion coming o the Pegasus Centre to pass on the benefit of his knowledge and experience”, said Martin Peagam, Centre Manager. “It will certainly inspire our riders!”
A local firm has demonstrated its generosity and commitment to the local community by donating £5,000 to the Pegasus Centre, the home of the Morpeth Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association.
“This is a magnificent gesture”, said Martin Peagam, Centre Manager. “It will make such a difference to the Pegasus Centre and gets 2012 off to a great start!”
The donation was made on behalf of Piramal by the Morpeth Team.
The donation follows a number of other donations from local organisations – including employees at Northumberland County Council and Princes Trust volunteers. The Centre has also benefitted from donations made following fund-raising activities by Morpeth Hunt Pony Club and a Black and White Ball organised by Pegasus Livery Yard client Lynn George.
Staff and volunteers at the Pegasus Centre are delighted after receiving news that following an assessment visit by the British Horse Society the Pegasus Centre received news that it had achieved a ‘Highly Commended’ standard in seven out of the nine categories in which it was assessed (the remaining two were assessed as ‘Commended’).
“This is independent evidence that the Pegasus Centre is continuing to meet high standards in everything that we do and is testimony to the hard work put in by all of our staff and volunteers as well as the support received from our partner organisations”, said Martin Peagam, Centre Manager.
The Pegasus Centre is accredited by the British Horse Society, which is the largest and most influential equestrian charity in the UK, as both a Riding School and as a Livery Stable.
“We are very pleased with this news’, continued Martin, ‘However we will not rest on our laurels – there is work to do and we will continue to seek improvements so that we offer the best possible facilities and services to our riders and other clients”,
The Pegasus Centre held a highly successful Christmas Fair in December.
Organised in conjunction with the Morpeth Hunt Pony Club, the event featured riding competitions, festive food and gifts stalls and the opportunity for children (and adults) to let Father Christmas know what they wanted for Christmas.
Father Christmas took time out from his hectic preparations for Christmas to meet riders and their parents and to distribute prizes and gifts to those competing in various events throughout the day.
In an exclusive interview, he told the Pegasus Centre that he was delighted to have been invited to take part in the event. ”I have had a wonderful time today meeting everyone and checking what they want for Christmas. This is always a busy time of year for me but it has been great to come along to the Pegasus Centre”, Father Christmas said, before departing to continue filling up his sleigh with presents for delivery on Christmas Eve.

Thanks and well done to everyone who helped with the RDA/Pegasus attendance and to those who bought raffle tickets. The raffle raised over £1000!
